About this blog
In 2008, I entered a contest to decide what the “seventh lesson” would be for a character named “Johnny Bunko.” Johnny Bunko, if you haven’t heard of him, is a young man in a manga-style (comic) business book written by author Daniel Pink. Johnny, like many college grads, follows his parents and counselor’s advice and goes to school, pursues a “safe” or “good” job and ends up thinking - like most of us do, that he’s made a mistake. He ends up at a dead-end job, and is getting discouraged when, through a chance encounter with an unusual “career counselor,” he learns the six essential lessons for thriving in the world of work:
1. There is no plan
2. Think strengths, not weaknesses.
3. It’s not about you.
4. Persistence trumps talent.
5. Make excellent mistakes.
6. Leave an imprint.
My lesson? 7. Stay Hungry.
You can read about it here: http://lessonseven.com
So, I won an all-expense paid trip to Oxford, England for the 2009 Global TED conference. It happens in July. And there was, of course, interest in a book by the same name - which I’m working on now.
I decided that rather than try to whittle down the dozens of stories I have about people who have “stayed hungry” - that I’d post their stories, my inspiration and a lot of other stuff on this blog. Some of it will be in my book, some won’t.
Regardless, I hope you all have a chance to read and enjoy it. These day-to-day heroes are all around us. Just listen and watch. The stories on this site are all copyrighted. You may use them on your blog or website provided you do NOT alter or edit them in any way, and that you include a link at the end or begining of the post to this website. Thank you.
